After all, in the context of data, “semantics” refers to the study of meaning within data, and recognizing the true meaning of data by understanding the relationships between different data points and entities, There are multitudes of ontologies being fielded, from FIBO* to FIGI** and more, and data semantics are even written into the recent Financial Data Transparency Act, but practically, as an industry we still have far to go to implement semantics – whether proprietary or standardized – into our enterprises and our work for maximum effect.
