Post-event summary
The webinar titled “Modernizing Your Data Management Program in the Cloud with CDMC,” was hosted by EDM Council and Informatica and explored how organizations can enhance data governance, security, and automation in cloud environments using the Cloud Data Management Capabilities (CDMC) framework. Experts shared insights into the certification process, industry trends, and the evolving role of AI in data management.
- Brett Roscoe, Senior Vice President Product Development, Informatica
- Steve Holyer, Data Platform Leader EMEA, Informatica
- Scott Beange, Head of Data Management, Projective Group
- Moderator: Jim Halcomb, Global Head of Research & Development, EDM Council
The session began with an introduction to CDMC and its significance in ensuring secure and automated cloud data management. The framework, developed in collaboration with major financial institutions and cloud providers, defines 14 key controls that organizations can use to certify their cloud data management solutions. Informatica, a leader in data management, recently completed its CDMC certification process, achieving recognition for its comprehensive automation capabilities. Scott highlighted Informatica’s unique position, stating, “Not everybody does data governance, data quality, cataloging, master data management, security, privacy, usage, and access. It really is that breadth that’s very uncommon in the market.” This breadth allowed Informatica to meet all 14 controls without requiring partnerships with other vendors, a rarity in the industry.
The panelists also discussed the broader impact of cloud adoption, emphasizing that organizations should take a “cloud-smart” approach rather than rushing to move all data to the cloud. Hybrid models, where data remains on-premises while cloud-based control planes manage governance, are becoming increasingly common. Informatica’s Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) facilitates this approach by integrating data across on-prem and cloud environments, providing centralized security and governance while allowing businesses to retain control over their most sensitive data.
AI’s role in data governance emerged as a critical theme, with panelists noting that generative AI is accelerating cloud adoption while introducing new challenges. Organizations struggle to move AI projects from pilot to production due to concerns around data privacy, security, and quality. Informatica’s solutions help address these challenges by automating metadata extraction, access controls, and quality checks, ensuring data readiness for AI applications. EDM Council is also expanding CDMC to include AI-specific controls through a new initiative, ADAC (AI Data and Analytics Controls), which will introduce a 15th key control focused on AI model outcomes.
The discussion concluded with insights into industry trends, including the rise of data marketplaces, the need for federated governance models, and the importance of automation in reducing compliance risks. The panelists encouraged organizations to leverage CDMC as a strategic roadmap for cloud modernization, ensuring data security, compliance, and operational resilience in an increasingly AI-driven landscape.
